About

Charlotte Devlin is a composer, instrumentalist, performer and procuder from South Lanarkshire, Scotland. She self describes her work as “expressive” stating that she often uses music as a “form of communication” to display her emotions and feelings. With a diverse range of influences from Debussy, Reich, Talking heads and Daft Punk, Devlin enjoys mixing together elements from what may be considered as "contrasting" styles, she confirms that she prefers not to label her work with specific genres.
Charlotte is currently studying BMus Composition at The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (RCS) where she established her talents within their junior school. She began improvising and experimenting with music at the age of 9 after taking up drum-kit lessons, later transferring her skills onto keys. Devlin was introduced to score writing through her High School and began teaching herself the skills of composition.
Background

Growing up her music repatoire was heavily influenced by rock and pop music, which she became aware of through her parents. Having grown up with her singer-songwriter father Paul Devlin, Charlotte Became aware of the root of music and sound.
At the age of 9 she began taking Drumkit lessons after her mother Jean noticed an advert at the local Town-Hall, Devlin became fascinated through the physical connection of body and drums and how a simple strike on the drum-skin could create such wonderful sounds. Quickly she became creative on the drums, often creating her own beats using word rhythms.
It was a few years later when she was introduced to melody through the keyboard often creating simple compositions by ear, figuring out for herself the likes of harmony and melody.
